“Well, it happened to me kinda funny. Like a dream. Yeah, that’s it…a dream!”
-Nicely Nicely Johnson (Guys and Dolls) Frank Loesser 1950
Raised in the tiny fishing village of Sayulita, Mexico; Rodney grew up loving the ocean, Mexican culture and music. Musical Theatre, however, was not a term he had heard of or could even comprehend. As if not by chance, he was cast in one leading role after another. Yet, he often wondered what lay beyond the Pacific horizon.
Setting his sights on more distant lands, at 16 years old Rodney headed to Paris, France by himself to complete his final two years of high school. He continued to earn leading roles and joined every choir and vocal group he could. He was also fortunate enough to be elected to give the high school graduation speech in Paris. And once again set his sights on a new adventure — New York City.
Within the first month of arriving in New York, he was cast as the leading role in a youth production of Children of Eden and was awarded “Outstanding Lead Actor” by The National Youth Theatre for his performance. Shortly thereafter, he was accepted into CAP21 Professional Musical Theatre Program and Industry Practicum where he cultivated and developed his skills.
Rodney debuted as Raoul in The Phantom of the Opera March 20, 2017. He joins the Phantom cast direct from the Broadway production of Disney’s Aladdin, where he understudied the title role.
